That style of gameplay would fit DK well and would be fairly unique for Nintendo (Nintendo doesn't really have any IP in that style aside from maybe Platinum's Nintendo exclusives and they're not really big on platforming), and could take a similar approach to what Pokemon Legends Arceus is doing, bill it as a side game, test the waters to see if people like it, and if it's successful, continue that style for future games and perhaps even integrate it into the 2D That's not really a high bar to clear. Something that's a mix of 3D platforming and combat. My thoughts is to have a 3D subseries (basically serving as DK's 64/Sunshine/Odyssey, Metroid Prime, Pokemon Legends, etc.) that plays like God of War, Knack, or the Werehog gameplay from Sonic Unleashed. That being said, I think the best way to shake up DK would be a 3D game, but one that's very different from what people expect. I also don't think sandbox/open world really suits DK that well. Just something original that actually has impact on the gameplay.Īnd no, it doesn't necessarily need to be 3D, nor do I think 3D is the magic fix (it sure doesn't seem to be for Kirby). Create new Kongs and Animal Buddies that can interact with the level in new ways (and not just for the occasional optional secret like Cranky did it TF). Give DK some type of new move or gimmick that shakes up the gameplay. DK really needs to do something new gameplay wise. Returns and TF are the NSMB of DK games, they're nice little nostalgia trips but they get pretty grating because they don't truly do anything new.
